Hi,
There may be no need to worry, some of these boxes do automatic software upgrades, or daily guide upgrades (updates the movie listings for the week, etc.) at pre-determined times, and the network usually sets the times at 2 am or so, because they believe that's the time that people are least likely to be watching TV.
But, if you are uncomfortable with the box coming on, by all means, unplug it at night, or put it on a power strip with a switch and turn off the switch when you're not watching TV, that's more convenient than unplugging it every time.
The important thing is that you're comfortable in your home.
