AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- There have been rallies and there have been student walkouts. The fight for gun control has been all over your social media feeds. Now, supporters of the Second Amendment are getting organized. Mainers are ready to march for the right to protect themselves.

"Gun owners are not monsters."

Dave Gulya and other gun owners are taking a stand.

"There's been so much said from one side of the argument that the people need to know that we're their neighbors we're you know we're peaceful, law-abiding gun owners who are proud of our constitution as it was written."

The National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans (NCCPA) is hosting what it calls the Rally at the Capitols next month.

"We will assemble at every state capitol," founder David Clayton writes, "...to show our support for our Second Amendment rights and to support our Constitution as a whole.

He also writes, "...the Second Amendment isn't just about guns. It's about supporting the natural rights of self-defense, resistance to oppression and the civic duty to act in defense of our families and our communities."

"We're not against finding common-sense solutions to gun violence," says Gulya. "There's gotta be a middle ground somewhere."

A movement for gun control has intensified in recent months. Now, the Rally at the Capitols to support the Second Amendment is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th.

"This is not like an answer to the other demonstrations that have been happening, the other rallies. This is kind of like this is our own thing. This is, again, letting people know that we're out here and again like I said we're not evil."

Gulya says gun ownership in Maine is part of the heritage for many families, with firearms passed down from generation to generation.
